Fourteen years after joining the Parramatta Referees Association as a Junior Referee, Zbigniew Przeklasa-Adamski will make his NRL debut as a touch judge in this weekend’s fixture between the Gold Coast Titans and the Canberra Raiders. The referees for the match will be Parramatta Referees’ Life Member Gavin Reynolds and former member Chris Sutton. Zbigniew will become the 141st NRL match official.
Known to most as “Ziggy”, this milestone is a significant achievement for any aspiring referee. Ziggy’s refereeing first started making noise when he selected in the 2006 NSW Junior Representative Squad. He was Parramatta Referees’ first Referees Referee in 2007 as voted upon by his peers. In 2008 he won Parramatta Referees Senior Achievement award. His most successful season in the Parramatta District came in 2009, when he refereed both the U17/1’s Grand Final & the A Grade 1st Division Grand Final.
Following on from a successful Junior Reps season, where he refereed the Grand Final of the Harold Matthews Cup Competition, he was graded to the NSW graded squad in 2010 as NSWRLRA member #948. It was in this same year that he won the Michael Ryan Medal for Referees Referee in the Junior Rep Squad.
In 2013, Ziggy was appointed the referee for the NSW Cup Grand Final between Windsor Wolves and the Cronulla Sharks. As a result he was awarded the Bill Harrigan Trophy. From here, he moved into the NRL Part Time squad where he continued to referee Holden Cup and NSW Cup on a regular basis.
He has always displayed a driven approach to his refereeing, consistently putting in the hard work over an extended period of time. He has dealt with setbacks and adversity with grace and dignity over the years. Ziggy leads by example and in doing so has shown many current Parramatta Referees the way forward both in and out of the Parramatta District.
Ziggy becomes Parramatta Referees fifth member to officiate on-field in an NRL match this year, joining Ashley Klein, Alan Shortall, Gavin Reynolds & Kasey Badger.
